an image of mercury's recent transit of sol

On Wednesday this last week, things lined up in such a way that Mercury could be seen crossing the sun from over half of our planet! In the photo below, mercury is the tiny black circle (almost a speck!) to the left of center. You can see a bigger version of the image here This is today's Astronomy picture of the day, which you can have automatically downloaded to your desktop every day using this software These pictures are always amazing--makes me look forward to seeing my computer desktop every day.

wow! that is just amazing. The universe is so intricate and huge beyond anything i can imagine.
i wish i had the kind of mind that could fathom the kind of dimensions and 'whatevers' are involved.
Noice (nice in Ozie)

You do! you do!. I always thought all this stuff was a bit beyond me, then I took astronomy 101 at school, just because I needed a hard science class for a core requirement. It was fascinating! Have you ever taken that? It's not that hard, and you could probably find the class offered online through some university. I did it online, and it worked fine. In fact, let me suggest the online course I did, with Dr. Ana Larson who is brilliant and very encouragin. Click here

thanks for that vote of confidence. I assure you that you are wrong on this one! But i am a little bit tempted i must say. I had a friend who had a telescope and knew stuff about the stars - and it was amazing ... i have not studied anything science related at all...but when i was little i wanted to be an astronaut! ha ha!
