I'm thinking about the massacres in 1988 in Iran which we didn't even know about - a positive element about C21st technology is that, (whatever our response or lack thereof), we know about the human rights abuses occurring on our planet...
I wonder what that shrink's job must have been like.

Yeah--I guess you probably already know about what a massive and uncalculated-into-the-total-cost problem combat related ptsd is. And that's not even the worst of it. If you think the American military guys have it bad, imagine what it must be like to live in Baghdad, and have a sort of city wide extremely high level ptsd going on.
I can't imagine how entire cultures recover. I wonder about Rwanda, and the Congo today. And we're still recovering from the society-wide ramifications of wars fought decades ago.
How do we start again?
I saw Invictus a few days ago. Possibly the solution is to do like Morgan Freeman did in South Africa, although I don't know completely what they did in South Africa other than rugby which was the only part that the movie focused on so I may have the wrong idea.
